Upsher-Smith Laboratories–Project Keystone

Horwitz provided mechanical and plumbing design-build services for this complex pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Multiple utilities were installed to accommodate Upsher-Smith’s process and cleanroom requirements, including a clean steam generator, clean compressed air plant, dust collection with FIKE explosion suppression systems, fire water containment tank, nitrogen, purified water, hydrogen and a regenerative thermal oxidizer. In addition, three 55,000 CFM GMP air handling units and two 45,000 CFM dedicated outside air units were installed to serve the building’s cGMP manufacturing suites.

With the Horwitz design team involved in discussions early on, we were able to help right-size the project reducing final build and mechanical costs by nearly 25% while still meeting all of the unique technical requirements. When it came to project close-out and commissioning, Horwitz worked closely with the project team to ensure the utilities and process systems were successfully complete and ready for use.
