University of Minnesota – Athletes Village

Horwitz served as the design-assist mechanical contractor for the University of Minnesota’s Athletes Village, a 340,000 SF facility prioritizing student-athlete well-being. Comprising three new buildings and a Bierman Building remodel, the project featured the Center for Excellence building, housing a central utilities plant replacing existing chillers and steam boilers. Additionally, it included the indoor Football Performance Center and Practice Facility. Horwitz collaborated with design teams to optimize HVAC performance, coordinating water systems for energy savings and maintaining architectural integrity.

Despite Bierman’s ongoing occupancy, meticulous planning ensured minimal disruptions. Early involvement enabled 3D modeling, facilitating off-site prefabrication, optimizing workflow, reducing field labor, saving time and costs. Horwitz’s role in commissioning and turnover, coupled with effective collaboration, ensured on-time and budget project completion.
