In collaboration with Ryan Companies, Horwitz played a pivotal role in bringing the Tommie East Residence Hall to life—a state-of-the-art residence for second-year students at the University of St. Thomas. This five-story structure on the university’s Saint Paul, MN campus was designed to harmonize with century-old campus architecture while showcasing advanced sustainability through cutting-edge mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
Horwitz worked closely with Ryan Companies to design and implement high-efficiency HVAC systems and plumbing solutions, ensuring the building met stringent green building standards. Midway through construction, the partnership took sustainability efforts to the next level, shifting from a LEED-Gold target to pursuing LEED-Platinum certification. This collaborative effort required seamless coordination and innovative problem-solving to integrate additional environmental modifications without impacting the project timeline. Together, Horwitz and Ryan successfully delivered a residence hall that reflects the university’s commitment to sustainability.
