Lee & Penny Anderson Arena

The Lee & Penny Anderson Arena is a state-of-the-art, multiuse venue serving University of St. Thomas athletics and the broader community. Horwitz delivered the facility’s complex mechanical and plumbing systems, along with significant campus utility improvements—including more than 2,000 linear feet of direct-burial steam piping and precast steam vaults designed to support reliable, long-term operation.

The arena’s specialized systems required extensive planning and coordination, from installing nine air-handling units and high-capacity smoke exhaust systems to routing large-scale ductwork more than 50 feet above the arena floor. Horwitz used prefabrication and design-assist expertise to improve installation efficiency, enhance jobsite safety and successfully navigate the constraints of a tight urban site and century-old campus infrastructure.

Now home to Tommie hockey and basketball, the completed arena represents an important milestone in the university’s transition to Division I athletics. The project was recognized as the Finance & Commerce 2025 Top Projects Project of the Year—a testament to the innovation, collaboration and craftsmanship delivered by the entire project team.
