Lakewood Cemetery Welcome Center

Horwitz proudly partnered with JE Dunn to deliver Lakewood Cemetery’s new 30,000 SF Welcome Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed to support families while exemplifying environmental responsibility. As one of the first net-zero energy ready buildings in Minneapolis, this remarkable space has been meticulously designed to produce as much energy as it consumes annually.

Horwitz played a key role in implementing sustainable mechanical systems that set the foundation for the building’s energy efficiency. At the heart of this design are two Darcy geothermal wells, which provide a highly efficient and environmentally friendly solution for the center’s heating and cooling needs. This geothermal system works in harmony with a high-performance building envelope and a rooftop solar array to optimize energy conservation and generation.

The Welcome Center represents the future of sustainable building, showcasing how thoughtful system design can create spaces that are both functional and environmentally conscious. Horwitz is honored to contribute to a project that reflects innovation, sustainability, and a commitment to the community.
