As a Mechanical Design Engineer, Jake enjoys turning concepts into detailed mechanical systems and seeing those designs come to life.
The Horwitz Fit
Jake was drawn to engineering because it combined technical problem-solving with the opportunity to make a tangible impact. Since joining Horwitz, his role has evolved significantly. He began by supporting projects wherever help was needed and has since become the primary point of contact on many projects, taking ownership of design from initial load calculations through completed construction drawings while coordinating designs across multiple trades.
When asked about a milestone that stands out in his career, Jake mentions the first project he served as a lead designer on. Managing the design from start to finish gave him the chance to oversee every stage of the process while building confidence in his abilities. “Having ownership of the entire project was a great learning experience.” Jake states. “It pushed me to think through every detail and trust my decisions.”
Like many in the construction industry, Jake has learned that flexibility is essential. Balancing multiple deadlines and priorities can be challenging, but he’s found that staying organized and proactive makes all the difference. “If you stay ahead of your work, you can avoid a lot of unnecessary stress,” Jake says. “In this industry, you’re usually managing multiple projects at once, so being proactive is important.” That proactive mindset reflects the Horwitz Can-Do value Jake believes best represents him. Whether he’s staying ahead of his own responsibilities or checking in to see where teammates need support, he’s always looking for ways to help the team succeed.
That same collaborative mindset is one of the reasons Jake was drawn to Horwitz. The opportunity to work alongside talented teammates while contributing to a wide variety of projects keeps every day different. “I enjoy seeing projects evolve,” he says. “You start with nothing and gradually create something that will actually be built. It’s rewarding knowing your work helps make a project a reality.”
Outside of the Office
Outside of work, Jake enjoys staying active through sports. Whether he’s playing or watching basketball, baseball, volleyball, or golf, he enjoys the competition and teamwork that comes with the game.

As Jake continues to grow in his career, he remains focused on what drew him to engineering in the first place: solving problems, supporting his teammates, and designing the systems that keep buildings running. Every new project presents an opportunity to learn something new, strengthen relationships, and contribute to work that has a lasting impact.
